How to make yourself Hirable?
Today in an uncertain job market, stable employment is a question mark. Many of us apply for different jobs without making our self fit for that job requirement.
What does a Hiring Manager do in the process of hiring?
“They match candidate’s skills and experience with their requirements”
What does the above answer mean; it means only candidates who are fit into their requirement are hired. Your candidature fit can be verified by your skills, Knowledge, experience, personal attributes.
So it is obvious that you have to make yourself fit for the job which you are applying. No one can be fit for all jobs available in the market, that means you can be a fit for a certain job but the question is whether you are 100% fit to be hired by the employer.
Am I a fit for this requirement is the first question you need to ask to yourself before applying for the job? If you believe that you are 70% or above fit then you can consider yourself applying for that job otherwise pass on that opportunity.
How to check whether you are fit?
Read through the Job description clearly. Identify the key skills required on the job and cross check with your skills and experience.
Go to the company website and try to understand the culture of the company. Ask yourself is that the place where you want to be.
If the answer is yes then you show green signal to yourself.
Now let’s see how to fill the 30% gap
Everyone has desire to get into a certain job profile which they like. You need to research about that job profile before applying for a vacancy in that profile.
Try to understand the skills required to do the job. What are the qualifications to apply for that kind of role?
Now identify the gap between the required skills and the skills that you have.
Check whether you can do a training course or a certification course on those skills that are unavailable with you. If you find any valuable training or certification course then try to complete it.
Do some volunteer work which is related to the Job requirement for example if you have skills in web developing and if you are searching for a Job in web development then develop some personal websites. This will really add a huge value on your resume.
Keep in mind that JD is almost same for same role in every organization. For example if you want to apply for a Java developer then you should know the skills required to do the job.
Improve your communication skills
Improve your aptitude and reasoning skills, if the selection process generally has the aptitude and reasoning skill testing then prepare well for that.

Practice mock interviews with your friends or family. Frame a certain set of expected questions and ask your friend or a family member to conduct a mock interview. This will really boost your confidence level.
Be clear on what you want. I mean have clear understanding of what type of job you want and put your efforts towards it.
